Dr. Ajay Shah is a professor in the Department of Food, Agricultural and Biological Engineering at the Ohio State University (OSU), where he leads the BioSystems Analysis Lab. He is also the director of the OSU College of Food, Agricultural and Environment Sciences’ Program for Bioproducts and the Environment. Dr. Shah holds a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (2004) from Tribhuvan University in Nepal, a master’s degree in Biological Engineering (2009) from Mississippi State University, and a doctoral degree in Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering (2013) from Iowa State University.
The goal of Dr. Shah’s research program is to enhance the circularity of agricultural and biobased systems for sustainable food, feed, energy, fiber, and materials production. More specifically, his research program focuses on: (1) biomass (crops and feedstock) production, harvest, and post-harvest logistics/engineering; (2) biomass preprocessing and upgrading; (3) waste upcycling; (4) technology solutions (e.g., grain drying and storage) for smallholder farmers in developing countries; and (5) systems-level sustainability analysis through techno-economic analysis and life cycle assessment.
